Q1 Scientific CEO, Stephen Delaney is speaking at the next GIRP Supply Chain Conference. The conference, now in its 7th year takes place on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th April 2022 at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Dublin.
What is the GIRP Supply Chain Conference?
The Supply Chain Conference is a GIRP Educational Academy (GEA) event. Since 2016 the GEA Supply Chain Conference brings together healthcare and pharma supply chain experts from Europe and across the globe to share insights in the latest state-of-the-art supply chain and last mile technologies, explore new options for value creation in the healthcare ecosystem and provide a platform for exchange amongst top level colleagues and peers.
With the world in the midst of a pandemic, all eyes have been on the healthcare systems fighting to keep up with the wave of patients and struggling to cope with medicines and medical devices (un)availability. The COVID-19 pandemic has put medicines supply chains under unprecedented pressure and has already affected profound change for many involved in getting medicines safely and efficiently to patients.
The Supply Chain Conference 2022 will look at how the pandemic affects how we approach healthcare logistics and the last mile, the lessons learnt from the first months of crisis management, and how we can take these experiences to inform business strategy in the future. The conference will also seek to understand the digital future for the supply chain, its momentum amplified by the pandemic, as well as diving into the extent to which sustainability and climate change invite us to rethink the distribution of medicines.
Ultra-cold supply chain innovation with Stephen Delaney
On Monday 11th April, Stephen Delaney from Q1 Scientific will talk about accelerating supply chain innovation in ultra-cold pharmaceutical distribution.
COVID-19 vaccines have shed light on the distribution of cold, ultracold and cryogenic medicines. This sector inherently marked by significant supply chain challenges represents a key share of the pharmaceutical supply chain and is a nest for innovation and building the future of the supply chain.
The session with our CEO, Stephen Delaney explores the new trends and opportunities offered by the distribution and storage of ultracold medicinal products and draw lessons for pharmaceutical distribution of tomorrow.
Stephen Delaney was appointed CEO of Q1 Scientific in 2018. Since then, Q1 Scientific has gone on to win ‘Contract Services Company of the Year’ at the Pharma Industry Awards 2020 and most recently ‘Business of the Year’ at the Waterford Chamber Business Awards 2021. In 2020, Stephen led the company’s third and fourth expansions taking the facility to 20,000 square feet of pharmaceutical stability storage with over 7000 storage spaces. As CEO of a leading provider of temperature-controlled stability storage which is part of the supply chain for many of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, Stephen understands the demands and critical conditions required for pharmaceutical storage and cold chain logistics.
During the session, Stephen will provide some key insights into how Q1 Scientific overcome challenges with ultra-cold storage and distribution.
Ultra-cold storage expertise at Q1 Scientific
In the world of pharmaceuticals and life sciences, building and operating in-house ultra-low freezers demands an excessive amount of time, costs and human resources.
Off-site freezer storage at Q1 Scientific offers significant benefits to pharmaceutical companies including saving:
- Money by not having to invest in floor space, new equipment, staff and training
- Time through not having to plan, build, map and validate freezers
- Staff resources through not having to carry out daily inspections, monitoring, validation, calibration and preventative maintenance checks
At Q1 Scientific we understand the importance of having vaccines and pharmaceutical products stored correctly. We offer all commonly used conditions for biological and vaccine storage:
- 5°C ± 3°C
- –20°C ± 5°C
- –70°C ± 10°C
- –80°C ± 10°C
Using a custom monitoring system and back-up utilities we ensure consistent temperature conditions 24/7, 365 days of the year.
Transporting vaccines at ultra low freezer conditions
All vaccines require storage at highly specific temperatures to remain effective. Any deviation from this can compromise performance or result in a useless vaccine. It is important to maintain temperature-controlled cold chain conditions from vaccine production until administration.
Working together with our customers we create the best possible conditions for packaging and transportation. We use dry ice in our custom unit for shipping products at ultra-low temperatures.
This video highlights the simple process we go through with each customer.
